Wow - some good things are happening here at Chilly Pepper.
I applied for and received a "nursery specific grant" from the amazing folks at Giant Steps Foundation. THANK YOU! everyone who was part of this blessing.
The grant covered about 95% of the building, and it was delivered free yesterday. Praising God as the weather is turning and we need the nursery urgently.
Now we have to insulate, build stalls etc. and then we will have our first NV Nursery, ready for our 24/7 critical care program. We will also be turning one room in the trailer into a nursery for any overflow if we get lots of babies. I love and miss the CA nursery, but the number of babies we have been getting dictates we spend more time here right now.
As we head out to pick up the new kids, the numbers, (as always) have changed. We called our vet and had the necessary blood work done to transport the 6 to NV. However, we found out more babies needed to be picked up and that would mean a delay due to blood work. Meanwhile, Kari Robie stepped up and found adopters / fosters for 5 of those kids while they were waiting to be picked up. We were especially concerned as some of the babies were rather large and we don't want Pee Wee getting stepped on or hurt.
We are still getting Pee Wee, who comes with a vet bill and an injured leg. The bill for the above was over $600, but thankfully we will only have one of those 6 to feed and care for. But we are still scheduled to bring 7 more babies home. So we will be incurring even more vet bills with blood work etc.
(As there are "scams out there", we like to let you know where your funds go. Saving these babies is not inexpensive, but their lives sure are worth it! )
Shadow is doing extremely well. Her surgery went very well and she is getting better every day. We are gradually extending the length of her pen. Due to the barn size, we can make it longer but not wider in order to keep it easy for her to navigate. She was in the back and panicked when she couldn't find the door. (We had to move them out for a few minutes to fix the pen. Sadly, she does not quite trust me 100% after the surgery lol, but she is getting there.) So although she may see shadows? She definitely cannot see enough to be safe through door ways etc. But we are figuring it out :)
Here are about 16 seconds of "Shadow video"
The LAND & LIFE SUPPORT challenge has come to an end. We were not quite there but our beautiful Angel said "close enough and thank you to everyone who stepped up for the challenge". The land is being purchased and will be a huge benefit to the rescue.
We have a new challenge! Carolyn Young has a $1,000 One Thousand Dollar check in her hand and said she will send it if anyone will match it. Any takers?
It comes at a very good time with all the recent vet bills, the new mouths to feed and the nursery to get ready.
We are working on finding homes for the horses we have now, and still need help feeding, providing veterinary care and picking up the new babies.
