Wow, you can't even make this stuff up.
I received an urgent call for "Miracle".
Miracle is described as a cryptorchid, one-eyed, unhandled 7-13 year old stallion who WILL BE SHOT IN THE HEAD by the previous owner this coming Saturday or Sunday if he is not picked up and off the property.
He looks like he could possibly need surgery on his eye, and that surgery and the cryptorchid surgery can be extremely expensive. For those who might be wondering, when a stallion is a "cryptorchid", it means one of his testicles did not drop and is floating around or stuck somewhere in his abdomen.
Right now, all I am concerned about is raising funds so we can responsibly pick up this horse BEFORE it is too late. Look at that face. I am sorry but as far as I can tell he is NOT READY for a bullet in the head. PLEASE HELP us save his life.
He absolutely will need special care, but he does NOT deserve to die because he is a special needs kind of kid.
Please help us raise the funds for hauling, vetting, long term care and feed. As y'all know the list goes on and on, lol.
"Miracle" needs to come to Chilly Pepper - MIracle Mustang asap!! I simply cannot do it without your help.
Jax update. Jax has a serious and very deep injury. We still do not know if his bone has been, or how badly it has been affected. This is not going to be an easy or quick fix. He is on pain meds and antibiotics and getting the best care possible. His muscle was badly torn and we are following Doc's instructions as always.

Hi,
Jax needs your help today. He was a "behind the scenes rescue", and last night showed up with this injury.
We are on the way to see Doc now.
Any help with the vet bill and for his rescue and to feed and care for him would be greatly appreciated. (It cost quite a bit to rescue him, especially being behind the scenes, ughhh.) I will post after Doc sees him and let y'all know what he says.
The wound is really deep and there is alot of separation inside. His muscle seems to be affected and he was having issues walking.


Please help if you can and say a prayer. We still need small bales of hay as well, and baby grain for the kids. Appreciate your love and support so much.

Quick update. Cherry says hello, and is hoping to give y'all a smile. Her leg is healing well, and I will send pictures as soon as I can.
My broken arm has really slown things down, but the horses are all thriving. We still need to get some more small bales of hay. I have been so blessed with finding some local help, and I cannot tell you thank you enough for making that happen. I definitely need to keep him around for at least a few months, so any help with his pay is greatly appreciated.
Rowdy has started to be weaned off his Mama, and for now he and Cherry are hanging out together. It is so nice for both babies to keep each other company.
Lil Man, our latest BLM child, is getting huge. His leg is less swollen and he is running around like crazy with Feather and Sampson. He is going to be so tall, and he is just living life right now. Sampson, the teenager (approx 16 years) is looking for his home. He is gentle and smart and will be easily trained I imagine. He is a failed bucking prospect. Feather is at the perfect age to be started and is looking for her new home.

Need to make this quick. Thank you for all the love and support. Out of the 10 orphans from WA, Danniell Dustin took all but one for me. As my bone is broken around my prosthetic, I am not really supposed to do anything right now. Sadly Cherry was so badly injured she wouldn't have made the trailer ride, so I kept her with me.
I have needed to hire help pretty much daily, and I cannot thank y'all enough for your wonderful donations. I am not ok to type more than a few minutes, but wanted to say thank you and please keep helping Chilly Pepper. We did get Doc in WA paid off. Woohoo - Thank you, and I am still needing to pay Doc in NV.
I need to order small hay bales, and keep hiring someone to handle the daily chores at this point. The quad is down and needs to go to the shop. I will need it as soon as I can use my arm again. :)
Everyone is doing extremely well here at Chilly Pepper, and it is all because of YOU, MY CHILLY PEPPER FAMILY. I am sure I am forgetting stuff, and hopefully will be able to do a better update soon.
Please help us finish paying the vet bill in NV and order the small hay bales. Cherry needs her baby grain and milk pellets and I am just so grateful for each and every penny donated. Good help is hard to find and when I do find it, I need to pay them so nothing goes to the wayside while I am healing.

Good morning
Thank you for your help. Sadly, I am going to need lots of extra help for a while.
I am in Goldendale with Cherry. She was too badly injured to head to Idaho with the rest of the kids. Her ankle is badly injured and slowly improving with the meds and the clay treatment.
The one picture shows the water I am squirting into one of the puncture wounds, coming out of one of the other holes. That was a good sign as it did not go through her leg or appear to enter the joint cavity.
My shoulder is pretty much excruciating, but I am grateful to God that I have been able to take care of Cherry. Doing shots one handed is not the easiest. This beautiful little girl is so sweet that we have had zero issues when I am treating her.
Our vet bill in Goldendale is now down to $2052. Thank you everyone who has helped. We still owe Doc in Nevada as well, and I believe that is right around $1000. We are looking right around $3000 left to pay off the vets. I also need to pay the folks taking care of the NV kids while I am stuck here.
Cherry needs more milk pellets, baby grain and some good hay. She is doing a tiny bit better each day. However she is still not out of the woods yet.
I am running short on clay and of course having to hire folks to take care of the critters in NV.
I cannot begin to express my appreciation for all the love and support. I am a bit frustrated from the new pain, but also grateful everything worked out with the babies and I am able to care for Cherry.
Typing is extremely painful and I hope this makes sense. Please know that every penny is appreciated and please pray for Cherry and that this does not affect the prosthetic in my shoulder.

Good morning
I am in Goldendale with 6 babies.
Friday, I tripped and fell on a broken sidewalk. I knew it hurt really badly, but I wanted to give it a few days. I should have known by how shocky I was, but here we are.
The bone is broken around the prosthetic, and that can complicate healing. Going to Ortho Doc tomorrow. Not sure of the extent of the damage, but it puts me in a real pickle.
I am sitting here with 6 babies. Hauler is scheduled to take them to Dannielle Dustin' rescue in Idaho. That needs to happen asap. So far we have not quite covered the purchase of the new babies. I still have vet bills in NV for Shrek and haven't paid the entire bill at Goldendale Vet I will also have to keep someone hired to take care of things at the rescue until I get a bit better.
hopefully this makes sense. I am on a bit of medication, and man this hurts worse than my tibia and my broken femur.
Appreciate you all stepping up and helping me get through this latest challenge. Prayers so very much appreciated.

I received an urgent 911 for 4 orphan babies. These kids have literally no where else to go. As always, we need funds for Purchase, pick up/hauling, milk, brand inspections, hay, vetting etc. As of this moment I simply do not even have enough funds to cover their purchase.
I seriously need another "happy", as we all do, after losing Shrek. Shrek wasn't eating on his own, so I syringed him every hour. He seemed to "perk up" about 1:30 a.m., and started talking to me. We gave him everything and then some. He was in quite a bit of pain in the morning and was extremely sensitive to touch. After I gave him a dose of pain meds, he started walking up the the people who were at the rescue and asking for loves. A few hours later I fed him and he laid down for his "after dinner nap" like he always did.
I knew something was different, and I knew I was losing him. You want to go hysterical, but that is not good for them. So I held him as he quietly passed. Then I made the semi hysterical calls and rushed him in for a necropsy. Doc said it is often hard to find out what went wrong on those so small, but I had to know. It was beyond obvious when he did the necropsy. The internal bruising was vibrant and beyond obvious. We knew he had been stepped on/trampled immediately after birth, but only the injury to his leg was obvious. He simply didn't have a chance after that. His Momma is a baby herself, and she wouldn't let him eat and obviously knew something was wrong.
There are days when "I just can't anymore", yet at the same time it is something so precious and private when you spend 24/7 with them and you form an unbelievable bond. Yes this shattered my heart once again, but I am thankful to God that He chose me to spend that precious time with Shrek and be able to ease his pain and give him the chance to enjoy so much love before he passed. THANK YOU to everyone who helped him. I have no idea how bad that vet bill will be, but it was worth every penny.
Great news on Arielle - As is clear in the photos, her injury has improved dramatically, and we are expecting a full recovery. Thank you God, for the magic clay and Your healing.
Lil Man (the big dorky BLM kid) is settling in nicely. He is happy and has no idea that his body is so badly put together. I am running with Doc's idea to just let him live and see how he does. He is happy and running and playing and thinks he is all that.
PLEASE HELP ME SAVE THE 4 BABIES FROM TODAY'S CALL. They deserve every chance, even though it does cost LOTS of money to save them and care for them. Y'all Rock and I am so grateful for all of you.

Baby Donkey Shrek is only 5 days old and crashing. His situation is critical and he was rushed to the hospital for an emergency plasma transfusion, fluids and meds.
Shrek's Mom decided she did not want him, and would not let him nurse. We are not sure if this is because she is still a baby at only about 2 years old, or if she knows something is wrong with Shrek and is behaving like they do in the wild. She was starting to get pretty rough with him and it was clear he had to be pulled immediately.
In the wild, if a baby is sick or has something wrong, the babies are often just left behind or even killed.
Please help us help Shrek. His plasma was over $500??? and this is just the beginning. He also needs lots of prayers. We are in 24/7 Critical care mode and he is literally hour by hour.

Will you help me save another life? Meet "Lil Man", who is anything but little. He is a BLM kid and was working on his 3rd strike. We all know what that means. He is one of the homeliest, goofiest looking kids we have ever tried to save, but man is he sweet, and I couldn't "not" give him a chance. I said yes on Faith and the trust that y'all always come through for these precious souls.
He was a "medical", which means I was told he most likely needed surgery on his hocks as the guesstimated diagnosis was OCD. His legs look horrible and he is just a hot mess, but wants to run and play. Doc said give him a chance and let him grow into the mess that is his body.
He would not have had any chance of living if he was deemed needing surgery, so we were asked to give him his last chance. I could not wait on the decision, as I only had a couple hours to make sure he was safe. The folks at BLM were amazing and helped me get through the paperwork, as he had been "returned" by someone else previously.
Apparently, his body is growing way too fast and his poor joints are not keeping up and they often end up with bone chips floating around causing pain and crippling issues. His left front foot buckles horribly to the side when he moves and is tired. He is just a baby, about 3 years old, and the look in his eyes was "please give me a chance".
We really need more help with milk pellets and powder and to pay off the vet bill. The babies are going through a bucket of milk powder about every 5 days, in addition to milk pellets. We had a wonderful donation for big bales of hay, but the babies need small bales and a completely different mix. They also need their special baby grain. We were blessed to have Dustin Time come and take some of the babies to their rescue. However Chilly Pepper incurred all the initial costs and still have babies. Arielle is doing much better, (the one who was attacked by the mountain lion), although we needed a special vet visit and I also need more clay for her. She says THANK YOU!
I was told when they found Arielle they said we have 2 choices. We either turn her loose and let nature take it's course, or "I know a lady". Thankfully, they brought her to me.

NOW I need to pay for 4 more babies and one of them is badly injured. She seems to have been attacked by a predator, and Doc is on the way here this afternoon to see if we can save her.
The babies just keep coming, and I am asking honestly, IS SAVING THESE PRECIOUS LIVES something y'all WANT TO OR WILL KEEP DOING?
I feel like everyone has given so much already, but these littles have NO WHERE ELSE to go, and they are too young to sit in a pen and wait to be sold. These kids need milk and lots of TLC.
Do you want me to keep saying yes for at least as long as they are absolutely dependent on milk powder/pellets and someone to take care of them 24/7?
It's hard to keep trying to raise funds. Without them we simply cannot keep saving lives. (I want to go home and be on vacation lol, but these lives are precious and important). 3 Orphans need your help asap. I am actually on the road to hopefully pick up all 3 babies if we can get the funds. The babies are currently standing alone in the pen, waiting for us to come and buy them and give them a chance at a great life.

When it rains it pours. I really need help to get the truck back on the road.
After picking up Popeye, getting him vetted and starting home, the truck began to vibrate, and it just didn't "feel right". Long story short, I listened to the voice in my head and leaned on plain ole experience. There was something very wrong so I pulled over.
After $500 for towing, (US Rider covered $1200), and finding out what happened, I need $2100 to cover the costs and pick up the truck today. TWO of my tires were separating. We have no idea why, but it would have been a train wreck and It could have been deadly. So now I need 4 new ones and they are making sure everything else is good to go. Conveniently, US Rider expires so I have to pay that renewal this week as well. Another unexpected $400, but well worth it. They are amazing.
We raised enough funds to get Popeye picked up, Thank you! (fuel is about $350 one way), and we paid for Popeye and had some milk money. That is not hiring a hauler, and me and my broken leg doing it for free. Fuel is crazy expensive.
I am really worried about the future, and wondering if we will be able to keep doing this. I know things are tough, and I have AT LEAST 3 BABIES I am waiting to pick up and MOST LIKELY there will be more. We haven't even begun to cover Popeye's vet bill or food for even a month. I am very concerned that I will not be able to say yes to saving the upcoming orphans. However, if we don't get the truck back on the road, I will definitely not be able to grab the foals we are standing by for.
They are fixing the truck as I type this, and calling for payment this afternoon, I told them I needed some time and started praying. lol
I am so grateful I listened to that voice. God always keeps us safe, and it had driven 1300 miles in the last 3 days, and broke down in a safe place with actual phone service. God is good and He has kept the rescue kids and I safe so many times.
I really appreciate your help! (I was supposed to be spending my birthday with my grandson, not grabbing babies lol). But Popeye is worth it.

Chilly Pepper needs your help now. Just got off the phone for a 911 orphaned foal call. This kid needs to go to the veterinary hospital asap. He has no Mama and needs critical care.
I am currently in Reno, and having a root canal in the morning. Then I will be hot footing it back to Golconda, (182 miles), then grabbing the LQ, (baby trailer) and heading straight to Doc's in WA. If I sound a little flustered, I kind of am. However, I know we can do this.
Right now I don't have the needed funds, but this is what we do. Saving the babies is one of the really rewarding parts. Y'all have saved so many and I need your help for these new kids. Funds are low, but when we come together amazing stuff happens.
There are more orphans coming, but this little one is only a week or so old and needs us now. The average cost for the first couple months or so for an orphan like this can easily end up being over $2000 when you add purchase price, hauling, vetting, milk replacer powder ($115) per bucket, and 1 bucket lasts about a week? They need bedding, hay, milk pellets as well as the powder, Vaseline for baby butts, disposable gloves, baby wipes, meds, extra vet care for cases like this, supplements, baby thermometers and the list goes on.

Dreamer is a senior mule who needs our immediate help. His feet are horrific, and even so, they look a thousand times better than they did. However, even though the "farrier" chopped off a good 6 inches, there were no xrays, nothing is balanced and he is miserable. He is literally standing on what would be our ankle. He needs vet care, xrays and long term hoof care. He also has an extremely bad case of ring bone, so will likely need to be on meds. We will get him in to Doc asap, but need your help.
Jax also came to us a medical case. I was told there could possibly be bone chunks in his knee, and he is also showing back issues. We won't know exactly how severe his issues are until we get him reseen by Doc. At the time Doc came out, we were swamped with vet bills and couldn't get everyone done.
Please help Jax and Dreamer. Both deserve to live out the rest of their lives happy and not in severe pain. Even after what they have been through, they are still as sweet as pie. Please let's show them that humans can still be kind and loving.
We have been going through hay at an alarming rate, although the kids are fat, happy and loving life. I so appreciate y'all helping and the love and support. We were picking up supplies and on our way home from Fallon yesterday. The trailer tire failed, and we found out the leaf springs broke. Luckily we had no animals on board, but now we have another "needs to get fixed" lol. We also need to replace the blown tire as well. The tires were inspected and "good", but when the leaf springs snapped it all went to heck. Once again God kept us safe and I am so grateful we were not out in the middle of nowhere with no cell service.

At this time, our coffers are extremely depleted.
The truck needs servicing. We have several truck issues, and I like to stay up on the maintenance and repairs of all the vehicles as I drive in the middle of nowhere with 100's of miles of no cell service. The stock trailer needs serviced, checking breaks, greasing the hubs and making sure it is safe for myself and the critters I am hauling.
When I haul the rescue only pays for the second trailer, (hauler) if it is needed. That saves thousands of dollars every year as I do not charge for hauling. Having a generator is a necessity for the LQ. This keeps us out of hotels and makes it possible to take care of the foals when I am on the road. When I have orphans, they need to be fed every 2 hours. This means we stop on the side of the road and I can make warm milk etc. I can also use the heat lamps when we need to if the weather is bad. The list goes on and these items need to be paid for so the rescue runs smoothly and safely.
The prior rescue and those trips down south, along with not being able to fundraise for the hungry little kids, lol, has helped drain the emergency funds we had. There are so many unseen costs for rescues, like Insurance, vehicle insurance, utilities, vehicle expenses, wormer, shavings, cleaning supplies, part time help, and the list goes on and on. Whether I am caught up on my fundraising or not, the automatic payments keep coming out.
I really need your help. Y'all always come through, and this time I am asking for help with the basics that we need to cover to keep things running. The vet bill will be big again as we already have the farm call, the euthanasia and burial for Angel. We have at least one donk that needs gelded and we still have a Crypt Orchid stallion who will need a big surgery to be gelded as his testical is floating somewhere it shouldn't be. That can be a very big surgery and can be anywhere from $1000-$4000 dollars.
I so appreciate each and every one of our Chilly Pepper Family. As always, I will keep doing the work as long as I can. You are amazing and the animals we have saved are blessed because of you, and your love and support. Every dollar and every prayer is appreciated!

Hi,
Sorry this update is so long in coming. We ended up with 10 kids in the trailers as that is all they could load. Was great for the kids because they had lots of room on the way home.
We headed back for the 2nd load of kids, but there was an issue getting paperwork, so we returned empty. However, I STILL HAVE TO PAY THE HAULER, and cover the expenses. We waited until the next day, but I can't pay the hauler to sit there for more than 2 days. This trip still cost the rescue $1000 +. I believe we raised a couple hundred for this trip.
It is frustrating to drive over 800 miles round trip, have to pay someone to be at the rescue, and come back empty, but paperwork is a must. We are ready to jump if and when the appropriate paperwork is secured. It was kind of hard to not be able to bring any more home.
So now we focus on moving forward and these kids need to be vetted, especially the ones with the twisted feet/ankles. I imagine several at the very least will need xrays. You can't just trim it to look pretty. You have to make sure their coffin bones are not rotated to the point where it could cause devastating pain and a lot of people would never realize they were living in agony.
Our current vet bill at Zimmermans needs to be paid off so we can start vetting these kids. If you would like to help, you can call 775-623-0981. The total needed to pay the bill is only $855.
Silver, aka Skeeter, would also appreciate some extra groceries and special grain. He says Thank You in advance. :) He has an infection and injury on his leg so we are treating that with out magical clay. He may need xrays as well.
We had a wonderful blessing and our whole load of hay was paid for. The total for the load was $4,431.25. I am so grateful for our wonderful "hay angels".

OK, It is day 3, and we are heading home tomorrow with two trailers. I believe we are taking 17 back to Chilly Pepper.
I had to put in an order for the big hay bales, even though we are not quite ready financially. We have some starved kids, kids who have been neglected and just a mess of critters, horses, donkeys, mules, and both trailers are Full!
Please help. We need to pay for vetting, long term care, grain and special feed for the special needs and just to take care of them until they are healthy and happy again.
Hay is about $3500, and we also need to cover special care once they are home, the costs to transport and all of the other "normal expenses" to rescue an injured/abused/starved animal. Alot of them will need immediate vet care.
These kids had such bad feet they needed to be worked on prior to even loading them in the trailer. It is happening now and these precious souls need you now.

These horses and burros need your help now. I am currently on location and need funds to help save starved and neglected burros and horses. There are 59 burros and several horses at this site who need immediate help. I was called by a friend of mine who is spearheading this rescue. Look at those hooves. It is heartbreaking and we need to raise funds for this rescue, transport, vetting and to feed and care for them.
Above is a photo of the donkey "Cork Screw"'s feet. As you can see, they are in horrific condition. Silver, the grey shown above is emaciated and needs special care and feed. He also has a pretty bad injury to his left foot and will need treatment, vet care and imaging done.
I will go into more detail as I have time. Right now I have a 2nd trailer headed this way and we need to raise funds now. I already needed to order hay, but now it is of the utmost urgency. PLEASE HELP us save these horses and donkeys and buy another load of hay. Pretty much all of the burros have feet similar to this.

Thank you for EVERY SINGLE DONATION, AND FOR ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT!! Things are going very well here at the rescue. We received a wonderful donation of small hay bales, (80 - 120 # range), and the timing was perfect as I was down to a couple bales.
I just placed the last big bale (1800 # +) out in the field. The permanent kids on the other side of the street, and a few on my side, use the big bales. They are efficient, less expensive and work perfectly for our permanent residents. I need to place another order ASAP, and those run about $3500.
We were up to nearly 40 kids, but when all the donkeys and mustangs that were adopted from the last two groups are picked up or delivered, we will be down to 15, unless I forgot to count one, lol.. This will make the next batch of hay last much longer.

I am on standby as I received a phone call about possible gathers starting soon. I don't have much info as of yet, but I need to be ready for any incoming foals, etc. We will need Foal Lac Powder or Mares Match Powder, Foal Lac or Mares Match Pellets, foal response, and to stock up on the regularly used drugs and antibiotics. The following supplies are some of what are needed asap to be ready for incoming horses.
Baby Wipes, disposable gloves, paper towels, vaseline, baby thermometers, garbage bags, twin/queen heating blanket, Foal Response, Vitamin B, Alfalfa pellets, Omolene 300, Mare & Foal or grains for nursing/pregnant mares. Any donations can be sent to Chilly Pepper, 12965 Green Saddle Drive, #233 Golconda, NV 89414. They may ask you to re-enter the shipping address because we don't exist, lol.
A 20# bucket of Mares Match Powder runs $113.99 on Amazon. This needs to be ordered prior to actually getting any little ones, as they need it right away. I honestly have no idea yet of how many I will be getting or ages etc. When I got the call I said "yes", Chilly Pepper would be ready. Now I am trusting everyone will help us be prepared to take the best possible care of any littles or wild ones we get in.
I have never said this before, lol, but we are solid on our Fleet Enemas, we received a wonderful donation from one of our Chilly Pepper Family.
I appreciate any donations for hiring help. I am well on the way to having everything set up the way it should be for easy one-person sorting, vetting etc. It has simplified my life substantially and taking the time to improve the set up keeps all of us safe and out of trouble. Happy news at Chilly Pepper.
Stitch is safe and has a wonderful new home. We had 2 baby donkeys born. Willy, the blond baby is from the most recent save of the 14 donkeys. He was born shortly after his Mama was adopted, and they all came back so he could live in the heated nursery barn for a short time, due to horrible weather.
Rowdy, the little boy in my lap is Lilah's baby. Lila was from the 18 donkeys prior to the last rescue. His Mama made it clear I was her person, even though she was terrified of everything, so I was not able to adopt her out. She gave birth to this big boy and all are thriving.
So far ALL the donkeys either have homes or pending adoptions. We had to euthanize one of the colts who came in with a very severe and painful injury. Sadly not only were his injuries to the point where I had no other option but to end his suffering, but we incurred more expenses. It is so frustrating when folks are not upfront about the conditions of the horses we save. Thankfully though, we did save him from going down in the slaughter truck or the actual horror of being slaughtered. He knew love and kindness and sometimes that is all we can do. He did require extra vet visits as we needed Doc to come back out and do x-rays.
It's "hay time" again. The load of big bales come in at around $3300 - $3500. I also need another load of small bales, and that load is usually between $750 and $900. I only have a couple big bales left, so ordering hay soon is a must. We had so many horses and donkeys here that we blew through the last loads of hay, but with all the adoptions, we are down to a much more manageable number, and this next hay should hopefully last quite a bit longer.
Sadly I am back on crutches most of the time. I definitely need to get the quad in for servicing and repairs, and the estimate is anywhere from $400 to $850.
It is a must that I have access to the quad, as there are too may critters to take care of on crutches and I have to get all the chores done no matter how bad my leg feels. My silly "good leg" has been acting up and there are times I literally cannot stand on it. So I really do need the quad.
I appreciate all of you, and am working on catching up on my "thank you's." The work is endless though, with all these animals and the gelding, etc.
IF anyone has any old crutches that would fit a person that is 5'4", I would love them. I need to keep them staged around the property in case I get stuck. When I stop and do waters or feed etc., I often set down my crutch and then I will be somewhere else and not able to move. So it would be really helpful to have them staged like I used to. URGENT NEED FOR HELP TO SAVE STITCH.
Stitch is an older gentleman, in his 20's, with some bad teeth, limps, has sore feet and is the biggest sweetheart you will ever meet.
We need about $1500 for his bail and transport, and more for his feed, vet care etc, if any is needed. He is so sweet.
Please help us cover his costs. He cannot go to slaughter.

As usual, there is never even time to grieve the loss of those we love.
I received an urgent plea to try and save 7 pregnant donks with the babies at their side.
Mama Donkeys slaughtered for their hides. Do you want to help save them?
Ok, I am reeling from the loss of Lou, and what he went through. There are times like this when it seems too hard to fight anymore. It is just too overwhelming and never ending.
Then I get the call, and I am doing the only thing I can. Letting folks know about the need, and trying to save some Pegnant Mama burros and the babies at their side. THESE MOMS, and some of the bigger babies will be SLAUGHTERED FOR THEIR HIDES. ***See below.***
I don't know any other way to heal except by helping save others to honor the ones who didn't survive. I have always known Donkey hides were used and in demand, however I had no idea of the scope. Read the article from American Wild Horse Campaign in the pix below. China produces 5000 tons of EJIAO for medicinal n cosmetic purposes. China needs EIGHT - TEN MILLION donkey hides (See article below from American Wild Horse in the pix) to fill the demand to supply the demand for their products. We can't save them all, but I sure would like to help these 7 pairs. If you would like to help with Lou's vet bill, or help save these precious souls, I will fight for them. Honestly it is up to y'all. If I can't save them, at least I know I tried. I am sorry if this is alot, I know it is for me. I simply had to ask if anyone wants to save these kids,
Honestly It is hard to even post this fundraiser. However, it was dumped in my lap this morning, and these donkeys deserve the same amount of effort as Lou did.

RIP Lou. The tears are pouring. Our beautiful boy left us tonight. He had his milk, went to sleep under the heat lamps for his normal nap, and quietly slipped away to heaven. I believe he took the last shattered piece of my heart with him.
Hospice rescue is simply the hardest. None of us want to go through the pain, yet we will ALWAYS fight with our precious kids if they are fighting and need us in their corner. I think it is a very precious gift from God to be able to bring these babies/horses some good food, loving arms and to ease their horrible pain and to let them know what it feels like to be properly cared for, even if it is for such a short time. It is such a blessing to know he left with his tiny belly full, sleeping peacefully under the warm light and with less pain. It is truly crushing to lose them, and I have never seen a baby so badly injured, fight so hard to not only stay alive, but to fight so hard just to get up because he "had stuff to do".
Would I do the drive and spend the money again if I was asked to help? Yes, of course. Doc said it was 50/50, and we ALL agreed with his will to fight it would have been wrong not to fight with him. My heart is crushed into a million pieces, and I didn't know I could hurt so badly. With Melody, (TX horse), my dear friend Lisa passing from the car crash, and now my precious baby, it feels like I have no heart left, just a ripping pain where it used to be
The hardest part of all is that this was caused by a human. There is no excuse, and I hope that God avenges Lou's horrible suffering. I went inside to get a bite and prepare the clay. His skin had come completely off from the rope injuries. There was no telling how badly his internal injuries might be, but with the proper meds, he had a chance if it was just from inflammation.
Another thing that makes it so hard is getting them too late. Both Melody and Lou might have survived if I had gotten them sooner. Can you even imagine how cold and scary it was for Lou to lay out in the open, unable to even stand? I have no words, or none that I can say. Yet I never know what I am limping in to. You just go when you get called. Even knowing the outcome, he was only 1 week or so old, and he not only deserved the love and kindness, he simply needed it.
Reading this through the tears, I hope it makes sense. Thank you for giving this precious boy a chance.
We still have his vet bill and the costs to get him home and buried.

As usual, there is never even time to grieve the loss of those we love.
Last night I received a 911 call for an orphan foal. What would normally take about 9-10 hours ended up taking up about 15 hours, due to the horrible conditions from the winter weather. I had no choice but to jump in the truck and head out asap. I am exhausted and really wanted to go hide for a few days, not drive myself through storms and winter weather. But it had to be done, so off I went.
I arrived to meet Lou, (named after our beloved Lisa Lou Ussery, who just passed from a tragic car crash). He was not able to stand up and the folks thought he might be paralyzed in the back end. He was severely dehydrated, cold, damp and shaking like crazy. It was obvious he was in shock, and a great deal of pain, yet he was kind of playful and ALWAYS wanted his groceries. (ie. milk lol)
Mama Mel, Cam and Jaysun loaded him into the trailer. I drove as quickly as I safely could, again due to ugly road conditions, straight to Goldendale Vet Clinic. Time was of the essence. We either jumped in and went for it or euthanized him. Watching him shake while you looked at the horrible injuries was heartbreaking. He shook and shook and shook, in spite of having a high temp of 103.3 He was clearly in shock and his leg looked broken. He needed Plasma (the life saving Colostrum. It is crazy expensive, but lifesaving where needed.
He received fluids, the Plasma, antibiotics, anti inflammatory meds, ulcer meds, pain meds and the list goes on. Up until I left, he was unable to stand on his front leg or his back legs. Yet the whole time he was begging for his milk and drank several portions. As Doc said, "He Sure Wants to Live and is a Real Fighter." When I left, I asked Doc and she said he has a 50/50 chance, but man does he want to live.
This is excruciatingly expensive, but was his only chance. His leg injuries were clearly caused by a rope, and thankfully the leg is not busted, although it might be permanently damaged if we can even save our boy.
When you see that kind of fight, and especially when the condition was human caused, all you can do is pray hard, donate and share his story.

My heart is breaking into a million pieces. Not only did I find out we lost one of our Chilly Pepper Family yesterday, we also had to say goodbye to Melody,

Melody was no longer even trying to help stand up. She was done, and made it very clear. She was pretty comfortable while she was down, moving around and eating and drinking and hanging out with her new friend Bunbun.

However, there was some type of damage done in her back end, and it was making it impossible for her to even want to try and get up. Sadly, Doc let me know it was time, and as much as we all wanted a miracle, it was the only thing to do which would honor and respect what was best for her.

I didn't post yesterday, because I was reeling from the shock of losing Lisa. Lisa has been a long time, and very much loved friend. She was the kind of friend that no matter how often or not we saw each other or talked, it was like a moment hadn't passed. She was so very loved by everyone who knew her. Lisa was ejected in an accident, from a car that rolled and died from her injuries.

Lisa was a huge part of Chilly Pepper from way back in the beginning. Just 2 years ago she helped with our 20 starvation cases, and also adopted one of them. She touched so many lives and did so much with us when we were on different rescues. Jennifer, my "adopted daughter", and Lisa and I had so many different rescue adventures. Her loss is devastating, and I am having trouble processing this. It is always horrifying to hear about a fatal accident, but when they are yours, it stops your breath and sends you to your knees.

All I could see was Lisa waiting for Melody. She was a huge part of so many rescues.

I am sorry it took long to update, but I just can't even breathe.
