Now the real work begins. With the good news comes sad as well. We had to say goodbye to Dusty, (one of the severely starved colts.) Doc had to end Dusty's suffering as he was experiencing severe seizures to the point he couldn't even stand up. Snowman was suffering and after spending the night at the hospital Doc said it was time. Starvation is one of the most painful ways to die. It is excruciating and being starved will damage the organs where they often cannot be repaired. Both left with full bellies, knowing they were loved. So now the rehab and rehoming begin. I still need to get this last group vetted so they can travel when they are healthy enough. I so appreciate all the love and support. We need lots & lots of hay, lol. With all these mouths to feed it's gonna get interesting. They will all need grain, supplements etc. BASIN FEED - 509-773-4648 if you want to help with feed.    UPDATE - There are still more horses to pull. (7 or 8, I believe).
We are working on getting the last ones, but still haven't even begun to raise enough for the 1st group. This is when I have to run on Faith Alone. We raised about $3000, and that just about covers yesterday's vet bill which will easily be over $1500 for Coggins and some blood tests, and transportation for the youngsters to our sister rescue in Idaho. We haven't even begun to raise enough funds to feed and care for the 1st group, yet I need to grab the last ones. Luckily Dustin' Time Rescue is taking on the youngsters, They will need help with rehabbing, feeding and gelding them.. Rescue is expensive. Hay costs are exorbitant, these kids obviously need lots of extra care, and we still have to feed our permanent residents. Please help now if you want to save this last group of horses. As you can clearly see, they are in horrific shape. They ARE getting fed (PTL!) while we figure this out, as long as we "git 'er done quickly. Tonka came in a stallion, who was extremely underweight and his feet were in horrific condition. He is very sweet but has been taught zero respect and is pushy. However, he is extremely smart and learning quickly what the right answers are. Doc gelded him, we got his hoofers trimmed and next he needs his teeth floated. His feed falls out of his mouth like crazy. I need help with the vet bill so Doc can come back out and do his teeth. Our vet bill was up to $2700 again after I needed to call Doc for an emergency visit when Mercedes gave birth to the still born Noah. Then I had to get Tonka Gelded, his hoofers trimmed and have Coggins pulled on the new kids. Happy New Year from Camp Chilly Pepper and all of our kids, (past & present) in Nevada. This year has been full of ups and downs, but the end of all this work resulted in saving 89 horses from the slaughter pipeline. There has been immense heartbreak, tons of craziness, as well as unbelievable blessings with the move. I literally had 2 weeks to "git 'er done" and that was not an easy couple of weeks for sure. I am so thankful to God and all of our Chilly Pepper Family for making this possible. Chilly Pepper now has 7 acres at it's disposal for as long as I need it and little by little I am getting it set up. Being by myself raises so many challenges, but I have been so blessed with lots of little miracles. Sadly I am struggling more and more with my physical disabilities, but I think God keeps me buried in this rescue so I won't end up a couch potato. These beautiful souls keep me fighting and I know this is what He wants. We saved 89 horses this year, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!! There is still so much to do to get "camp" set up to maximize how many horses we can save. We still have all of our permanent residents in NV and I am praying I get home soon. The need for more fencing, shelters, hay, feed and medical supplies continues to be somewhat overwhelming. I have faith that little by little it will get done. For now I am just trying to finish off the vet bill which once again has gone up with gelding, Coggins and Health Certificates, and get home for at least a little while.
