We have the chance to save not only mama, but the rest of the band this time. Don't know how or why, but I got the call that I had until 3 o'clock today to decide if they lived or died.
Everyone keeps asking why we don't save the moms. We never have the chance, but once I saw these faces I could not send them to slaughter. All of their lives matter and I cannot pick babies instead of big horse kids. We are still getting the babies, (not sure how many yet), but this is definitely a wrench in the plans. We will figure out the logistics as we go. Bail is $900 and then of course we have the Coggins, Health Certs, etc. I am hoping the people that wanted us to save the moms and the bands will be on board to help us. We are also going to incur extra expenses to move them to their temporary facility. I am thinking this could be close to $3500 - $4000 with all that is involved. But I have to try..... I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART to those who have donated for this next pick up and all of the others in the past. But we need more help to save this band. I know there have been lots of "needs" lately, but this is that time of year. I could not look at those faces and not do my absolute best to save them from a horrific death. I am so grateful for being given the chance to save these. So if you can, please help us get this done. God bless and all I can say is THANK YOU for the love and support. Matt and I are getting a bit wiped out, but as long as y'all make it possible, we won't quit. We want to thank everyone for being part of saving all of these lives. It means the whole world to each and every horse that we save, and although we can't save them all, we are grateful for all the lives we do save because of folks like you and your love and support. We got the "calls", there are possibly 20 babies we need to pick up this Wednesday or Thursday in Yakima Washington. This is the number we have been given at this time.
The cost for EACH baby to be "bailed", get their Vet check, Coggins and Health Certificates to come home is about $200 each, which means we need at least $4,000 to pick up these horse kids. This does not include Fuel, feed, or any other costs. They are really coming in fast, and right now we still have some great homes lined up. The Really Bad News is that starting this weekend, ALL the trappers are going to start using helicopters, so we are going to be inundated with babies. Matt and I are willing to do the work and the endless driving, but we can't do it without the love and support you guys give. Without your help, it just isn't possible and these babies deserve a chance at life It is so overwhelming, but when do you say "Your Life Doesn't Matter?" So we will keep plugging away as long as we can. So we are asking for help for these new kids. We never want folks to give more than they comfortably can, and every single dollar is so very much appreciated. God is putting these little lives in front of us, so we are giving it our all to try and save as many as we can. We found a wonderful home for Spooner, who looks very much like Spirit, whom we are picking up this week. So many of these babies look so much alike, so we are making sure everyone knows they really aren't the same horses LOL. Folks at Expo thought Spooner and Spirit were the same babies but there is a definite difference in their blazes. It is only going to get worse and we need to pick up the slack as one of the amazing women we work with who helps with the Yakima kids was in a riding accident and broke her neck. She is doing well and already complaining about having to wait to ride again, (my kind of woman), but she obviously cannot do orphan foals at this time. So we are asking folks to stay with us so we can get these kids safely placed. THANK YOU - from the bottom of our hearts for helping and being part of our Chilly Pepper family. We are also asking that folks share this far and wide. It takes a village to save a "child", and there are so many. - thank you :) If you want to help You can go to You caring - https://www.youcaring.com/let-em-run-foundation-for-55-wild-horses-orphaned-foals-415297 to help us save these horses and you can donate there for the "orphaned foals" or You can go to Paypal - [email protected] or go to our Donate & Support page if you would like to help these horses You can donate via check at Chilly Pepper - Miracle Mustang, 34694 Sidebottom Rd., Shingletown, CA 96088 530 474-5197 If you are interested in visiting or adopting one of these beautiful horses We now have 9 babies at Chilly Pepper - Miracle Mustang, and of the two latest, Nuttah (means My Heart), and Samoset (meaning he walks over long distances) Nuttah was in the worst shape. These babies were run for over 3 hours by helicopters, and they are in really tough shape... Nuttah came into Melody's (a wonderful "foal mama" we work with) with her leg dangling and her hock hugely swollen. Melody cared for them (along with 5 others) until we could come get our little critical kids. Nuttah was then putting tiny bits of weight on her leg, but it was still hugely swollen and extremely painful. We put her on meds and brought her to our vet. Samoset had a head injury, but was not nearly as bad as Nuttah. Her procedure was $ 938.17, and she is returning to the vet tomorrow. As of now it appears she may need surgery. If she does, it most likely will be around $2500 on top of what the bill is tomorrow. We are hopeful, however, that we can at the very least postpone the surgery as she is feeling better and using her leg. We were advised that if there is any other joint that is infected like that the outcome would not be good. You never want to just "dump money" into one baby and not be able to save the others, but the reason we were called for her is that our specialty is the "critical foal care", and we do the critical care on and mostly save the "un-saveable or nearly dead ones". Cowboy is a great example, our local vet said he should be euthanized, but he had the same procedure as Nuttah, and he is doing great. Hers is a bit more complicated, but she is one of the sweetest little babies on this earth. I truly believe when God puts them in front of us it is because he wants us to help them!!! So please send lots of prayers that we can get her fixed up and do it without the surgery. Right now she is on meds 3 times a day and is just an awesome little girl! Great news for the original 65 wild horses y'all have been saving! As I write this, Matt is taking another 6 to Idaho, is coming back and taking another 6, again to Idaho, and then 2 to Oregon. Prior to today, we were down to 32, so we should only have 18 left?? Of course I am not on the property, but I am pretty sure that is the correct number. So y'all have supported and made it possible for all these kids to have a life. Thank you, and we are expecting more deliveries in the very near future.
When folks step up "just to help", we often need to raise funds for deliveries. Especially for transport for the babies, (and some of the big horse kids too), we need to make that happen and get the horses to their new homes. These folks are stepping up to help us give these horse kids a safe and happy home and get them off our books so we don't have the added expense of caring for them, and we can concentrate on what we need to accomplish here with these babies. SO - THANK YOU!!! - for making it possible for all these kids to get their homes, and for being part of saving the 65 Wild Ones. We are almost there, and I cannot wait until the trailer pulls out for the last time, and they are safe and settled. Together, we are getting it done, and I am so grateful for all of you being part of our Chilly Pepper - Miracle Mustang family. Right now our expenses are pretty high. We are going through an amazing amount of milk, milk pellets, baby munchies, hay and meds as we help all these kids get strong and ready for their new homes. We are going through over $2000 a month in milk powder, close to the same ($2000.00) in milk pellets and about a bale of hay or more lol per day. That is not including all the other goodies :) Some of these kids are eating the milk pellets and drinking less milk and that is why we are not going through quite as much of the milk powder. It sounds like more babies will be coming soon, (there are currently 8 that have been brought in (in Yakima) and we are waiting for the next call) so we need to stay on top of our supplies. We have been going non-stop, but because of y'all we are able to keep helping. We will be at Cal Expo in Sacramanto, CA if y'all want to come meet a baby and say hi. Hope to see you there. We will be in Booth # 309.
