HONEY BANDIT attended an awards presentation for the two local winners of our writing contest. The winners wrote about "Why Wild Horses Should Be Free". Xander, a wonderful young second grader from North Cow Creek, along with his parents, was honored by a visit from Honey Bandit. He was presented with his prize, a Honey Bandit T-shirt, HB's dvd, and a signed book by author Terri Farley. Xander also drew a picture of one of our wild horses. We are extremely proud of him and hope that he will continue to write and try to help save the wild horses. It was a wonderful morning and we are so happy to share times like these with our young children. Yesterday, Honey Bandit visited Junction School in Palo Cedro. The talented winner of the writing contest was Ashley, a 4th grade student. She also won asigned book by Terri Farley, t-shirt and Honey Bandit video. She wrote a wonderful essay about the horses, and I love the fact that even so young, she understands that wild horses are free at heart and need to stay free. We had an awesome morning with Ashley and were able to spend some time in a q & a session where the kids got to ask questions and many of them got to pet Honey Bandit. I was honored to give a presentation on Honey Bandit last year at Junction, and as many of the kids had seen Honey Bandit's video the prior year, they were really excited to see how happy and healthy HB is after his ordeal. Many of them were surprised at how good he looks now. It was a great day for wild horse awareness. Honey Bandit enjoyed his "star status" as usual, and after both school visits he was not ready to get right back in the trailer. I think maybe a little bit of this stardom is going to his head. (just kidding). He sure seems to love the attention though. I think he just knows he is a miracle and has a job to do. We were also very fortunate to have some wonderful visitors this last weekend. It is truly a pleasure to share out little rescue when people come to visit. We just seem to make more and more friends through this venture and truly count our blessings for that. Remember, ya'll are always welcome to come and visit and bring the kids and grandkids. If it's cold we will just bring out the hot chocolate and marshmallows and sit around the fire pit. Visitors and interaction with our local schools is one of our priorities. Without you, there would be no Honey Bandit, Chilly Pepper etc., and we thank you every day for allowing us to continue our work and expand the rescue. God bless and don't forget it is not too late to buy a raffle ticket for the BAILEY CREEK LODGE getaway (WWW.BAILEYCREEKLODGE.COM. That place is so gorgeous and truly peaceful. No matter who you are, it is the perfect place to unwind and decompress. Tickets are $5 each or 3/$10 and we have extended the drawing until March 1st, so we can hopefully move one more step in our "Winter, Warm and Dry" project.
