HUNDREDS OF ANIMALS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTED BY OUR GOVERNMENT ARE GIVEN SUBSTANDARD CARE, IE. having surgery with NO ANESTHESIA, no pain killers. Being killed by negligence with vets under the influence of illegal drugs. It goes on and on, and the agency that is supposed to protect not only the consumers but the animals seems to have zero conscience, and once again, the government is "protecting it's own".
It's Wednesday night, and I am in Roseburg, OR, picking up hay and supplies for our rescue. I am beyond frustrated, angry and pretty much at a loss, as to what our government even stands for. We flew all the way to San Diego, to attend the so called 'PUBLIC HEARING WITH THE CALIFORNIA VETERINARY MEDICAL BOARD". When we called the San Diego Zoo to find out where the "public hearing" was, they informed us that we had to pay $40 to enter the zoo to get to the meeting. Some kind of public meeting - huh? I was extremely fortunate as one of our very special donors paid for my flight, hotel, meals etc. I, like hundreds of thousands of Californians, could not possibly afford to travel to San Diego to this meeting. Thank God for people who understand what is happening and want to make a change. So, after the flight to San Diego, the rental car, the hotel bill and the food, not to mention hotel parking, this was not an inexpensive trip. WE, AS CALIFORNIANS, CARED ENOUGH TO TRAVEL TO SAN DIEGO TO ATTEND THE TWO HOUR "PUBLIC OPINION AND COMMENT PERIOD" OF THE California Veterinary Medical Board, as we knew the importance of this meeting. Guess what?????? The public part of the meeting was supposed to be from 10:00 to 12:00. The "public part" of the meeting started at approximately 10:18 and ended at around 10:36??????? There were only about 14 (approximately) speakers, and they ONLY ALLOWED US 2 MINUTES TO SPEAK!!! The time allotted should have been closer to 9 minutes. When it was a "supporting vet", the board member said 'I am sorry, but time is up", but when it was someone opposed, they simply shouted right in the middle of our presentation. TIME IS UP!!!!!!!!!!!! There was also a "gentleman", who seemed like he was trying to intimidate and be "the enforcer". He stood around scowling with his arms folded across his chest like he was there to control a riot. In all reality, he looked ridiculous, and it made a mockery of the "public hearing", as it was obvious they wanted to try and intimidate us. The main focus of the meeting seemed to be "adding the word SCALER" to the definition of teeth cleaning". The California Veterinary Medical Board is trying to shut down the Anesthesia free teeth cleaning services offered by non-veterinarians. The CVMB not only asked Ms. Collins (founder and owner of Canine Care, Inc., the multi-million dollar company that they are trying to eliminate so they can steal the business back) how much money she made and then they asked her why she just didn't bring her thousands of clients to the veterinary clinics and let them service them. This is a free country, and it is illegal to try and control businesses and force them to do what you want. The CVMB has a history of trying to shut down Ms. Collins, and they have lost every single effort to do so. Ms. Collins founded the company because her own, young and healthy dog, was killed by anesthesia for a simple teeth cleaning procedure. She started the company to protect our beloved pets. THIS IS ABOUT MONEY, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. WITH ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, NOT ONE SINGLE CASE OF INJURY IN OVER 30 YEARS FROM CANINE CARE, INC. OR ANYONE ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY, BUT MULTIPLE DEATHS AND INJURIES FROM ANIMALS UNDER VETERINARY CARE. THE VET BOARD NEEDS TO FOCUS ON DOING THEIR JOB, AND STOPPING THE MURDER, ANIMAL CRUELTY, AND INHUMANE CARE THAT IS RAMPANT THROUGHOUT THE VET WORLD. I WENT THROUGH ALL OF THE CVMB'S RECORDS OF ALL THE CASES OF CITES AND FINES AND DECISIONS AND ORDERS SINCE 2006, and there were NO, ZERO, CASES OF INJURY by anesthesia free teeth cleaning. HOWEVER, THERE WERE 51 CASES OF ANESTHESIA DEATHS CAUSED B Y NEGLIGENCE related to anesthesia, and some of those were related to teeth cleaning. After looking through the 129 cases, I was sickened by the NEGLIGENCE, INHUMANE TREATMENT, HORRIFIC ABUSES, AND DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE THAT WAS RAMPANT THROUGHOUT THE CASES. Did you know that NEGLIGENTLY killing an animal will cost you anywhere from $250 - $500 and you will not lose your license? With I believe two cases receiving a fine of $750. Hmmmm, I don't know anyone who believes their pet's life is worth that little. It doesn't matter if you DELIBERATELY AND INHUMANELY CAUSE PAIN AND DEATH, you can pretty much guarantee that it will only cost you an average of $250 - $500. You can operate with ONLY KETAMINE, which paralyzes the animal, yet allows them to feel the excruciating pain, and don't worry, you still won't lose your license. Guess the vets can pocket the "charges for the anesthesia they didn't administer". Vets that use inhumane methods, no pain killer, no anesthesia, continue to be allowed to keep their license. Doesn't it matter that these animals are dying left and right, and they are experiencing mass amounts of serious, excruciating pain? Reminds me of Honey Bandit. If you or I had an animal in that condition, we would be in jail, yet there was not one little bit of justice for Honey Bandit, as it was "government" who caused the horrors of HB, and they seem to be above the law. Contact your senators and lawmakers and tell them, 1) Stop the vet board from changing language they are not allowed to without legislation, 2) Drop SB 697 which allows the vet to "focus" on people like you and I that simply want to take care and rehab the animals. I will be posting some of these cases in the near future. I am sorry to write about something so horrible, but now that I know what is happening at some of the veterinary hospitals to our animals, I would be remiss and have some responsibility for the animals that are tortured, killed and injured in the future. I simply had no idea of the horrors hidden in the CVMB's "vault". We need transparency, and to be able to trust the people who hold the care of our animals in their hands. God bless everyone who does anything to save, care for, and provide safe and happy homes for our critters. God made it clear that we are to care for His animals. REMEMBER - IF YOU HAVE A GOOD VET, (AND YOU'VE SEEN ALL THE FACILITIES AND KNOW THEY ARE LIKE THEY SHOULD BE - HUG YOUR VET AND THANK THEM!!! Sickened by our government (AGAIN!) Palomino
