RIP tiny Lou. Our precious baby fought so hard.

RIP Lou. The tears are pouring. Our beautiful boy left us tonight. He had his milk, went to sleep under the heat lamps for his normal nap, and quietly slipped away to heaven. I believe he took the last shattered piece of my heart with him.
Hospice rescue is simply the hardest. None of us want to go through the pain, yet we will ALWAYS fight with our precious kids if they are fighting and need us in their corner. I think it is a very precious gift from God to be able to bring these babies/horses some good food, loving arms and to ease their horrible pain and to let them know what it feels like to be properly cared for, even if it is for such a short time. It is such a blessing to know he left with his tiny belly full, sleeping peacefully under the warm light and with less pain. It is truly crushing to lose them, and I have never seen a baby so badly injured, fight so hard to not only stay alive, but to fight so hard just to get up because he "had stuff to do".
Would I do the drive and spend the money again if I was asked to help? Yes, of course. Doc said it was 50/50, and we ALL agreed with his will to fight it would have been wrong not to fight with him. My heart is crushed into a million pieces, and I didn't know I could hurt so badly. With Melody, (TX horse), my dear friend Lisa passing from the car crash, and now my precious baby, it feels like I have no heart left, just a ripping pain where it used to be
The hardest part of all is that this was caused by a human. There is no excuse, and I hope that God avenges Lou's horrible suffering. I went inside to get a bite and prepare the clay. His skin had come completely off from the rope injuries. There was no telling how badly his internal injuries might be, but with the proper meds, he had a chance if it was just from inflammation.
Another thing that makes it so hard is getting them too late. Both Melody and Lou might have survived if I had gotten them sooner. Can you even imagine how cold and scary it was for Lou to lay out in the open, unable to even stand? I have no words, or none that I can say. Yet I never know what I am limping in to. You just go when you get called. Even knowing the outcome, he was only 1 week or so old, and he not only deserved the love and kindness, he simply needed it.
Reading this through the tears, I hope it makes sense. Thank you for giving this precious boy a chance.
We still have his vet bill and the costs to get him home and buried.
