Sorry this update is so long in coming. We ended up with 10 kids in the trailers as that is all they could load. Was great for the kids because they had lots of room on the way home. We headed back for the 2nd load of kids, but there was an issue getting paperwork, so we returned empty. However, I STILL HAVE TO PAY THE HAULER, and cover the expenses. We waited until the next day, but I can't pay the hauler to sit there for more than 2 days. This trip still cost the rescue $1000 +. I believe we raised a couple hundred for this trip. It is frustrating to drive over 800 miles round trip, have to pay someone to be at the rescue, and come back empty, but paperwork is a must. We are ready to jump if and when the appropriate paperwork is secured. It was kind of hard to not be able to bring any more home. So now we focus on moving forward and these kids need to be vetted, especially the ones with the twisted feet/ankles. I imagine several at the very least will need xrays. You can't just trim it to look pretty. You have to make sure their coffin bones are not rotated to the point where it could cause devastating pain and a lot of people would never realize they were living in agony. Our current vet bill at Zimmermans needs to be paid off so we can start vetting these kids. If you would like to help, you can call 775-623-0981. The total needed to pay the bill is only $855.   OK, It is day 3, and we are heading home tomorrow with two trailers. I believe we are taking 17 back to Chilly Pepper.
I had to put in an order for the big hay bales, even though we are not quite ready financially. We have some starved kids, kids who have been neglected and just a mess of critters, horses, donkeys, mules, and both trailers are Full! Please help. We need to pay for vetting, long term care, grain and special feed for the special needs and just to take care of them until they are healthy and happy again. Hay is about $3500, and we also need to cover special care once they are home, the costs to transport and all of the other "normal expenses" to rescue an injured/abused/starved animal. Alot of them will need immediate vet care. These kids had such bad feet they needed to be worked on prior to even loading them in the trailer. There are 59 burros and several horses at this site who need immediate help. I was called by a friend of mine who is spearheading this rescue. Look at those hooves. It is heartbreaking and we need to raise funds for this rescue, transport, vetting and to feed and care for them.
Above is a photo of the donkey "Cork Screw"'s feet. As you can see, they are in horrific condition. Silver, the grey shown above is emaciated and needs special care and feed. He also has a pretty bad injury to his left foot and will need treatment, vet care and imaging done. I will go into more detail as I have time. Right now I have a 2nd trailer headed this way and we need to raise funds now. I already needed to order hay, but now it is of the utmost urgency. Thank you for EVERY SINGLE DONATION, AND FOR ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT!! Things are going very well here at the rescue. We received a wonderful donation of small hay bales, (80 - 120 # range), and the timing was perfect as I was down to a couple bales. I just placed the last big bale (1800 # +) out in the field. The permanent kids on the other side of the street, and a few on my side, use the big bales. They are efficient, less expensive and work perfectly for our permanent residents. I need to place another order ASAP, and those run about $3500. We were up to nearly 40 kids, but when all the donkeys and mustangs that were adopted from the last two groups are picked up or delivered, we will be down to 15, unless I forgot to count one, lol.. This will make the next batch of hay last much longer. * * * BIG NEWS * * * I am on standby as I received a phone call about possible gathers starting soon. I don't have much info as of yet, but I need to be ready for any incoming foals, etc. We will need Foal Lac Powder or Mares Match Powder, Foal Lac or Mares Match Pellets, foal response, and to stock up on the regularly used drugs and antibiotics. The following supplies are some of what are needed asap to be ready for incoming horses. Baby Wipes, disposable gloves, paper towels, vaseline, baby thermometers, garbage bags, twin/queen heating blanket, Foal Response, Vitamin B, Alfalfa pellets, Omolene 300, Mare & Foal or grains for nursing/pregnant mares. I am well on the way to having everything set up the way it should be for easy one-person sorting, vetting etc. It has simplified my life substantially and taking the time to improve the set up keeps all of us safe and out of trouble.
